The Brothers Karamazov is a dynastic novel written by Fyodor Dostoevsky in the Russian language. This novel is written in the years 1879 to 1880 and published by The Russian Messenger in the year 1880. The Brothers Karamazov is written in past tense and it is set in the locations of old Russia. The narrator describes the life stories of a family i.e. the family of Karamazovs.  In this novel the narrator takes a serious tone and takes the readers for a joyous thought provoking nerve chilling family drama that is written with the central them “death”.

The Brothers Karamazov is set in the mid eighteenth century and describes the story that happens in a city in Russia. Alyosha Karamazov is the main character in this novel by Dostoevsky. Dmitri, Ivan and Alyosha are the legal sons of father Fyodor Pavlovich Karamazov. The major conflict arises when Dmitri and his father develops rivalry because of the vigorous love over the lady Grushenka. This is the main plot in the novel because of which most important and heart breaking incidences occur.

Ivan Karamazov is depicted as the intelligent man who has increased inner turmoil on god and his existence. Alyosha follows the path of a monk and comes in contact with the elder zosima at the monastery who preaches Alyosha and changes his life path towards a more meaningful path. Dmitri is a sensualist who involves in beating and violations of fellow men. As the novel moves towards climax we see that Ivan the intelligent man who represents doubts face nervous breakdown when he comes to know that the murderer is Smerdyakov who killed his father. Since Dmitri is convicted wrongly for his father’s murder, Ivan and Alyosha are trying to protect Dmitri.

The falling actions are Dmitri’s wrong conviction of the murder of his father. Dmitri and his former love Katrina reconcile their lost passion and differences at the end. Alyosha starts taking the step of father Zosima. This novel ends with preach of Alyosha to the school kids. Alyosha‘s speech near the stone after the death of illyusha confirms that Alyosha is taking the path he always dreamt of. The Brothers Karamazov is an exceptional great novel for craving young minds.
